Serpents coil around the periphery of the mask, their bodies curling outward into the field, framing the face. The hair is rendered in short, textured locks. The design fills the flan completely and is executed with considerable plastic detail, reflecting the high artistic quality associated with Parionian silver coinage of the 4th century BC. |
