Reverse description A labrys (double-headed axe), the civic emblem of Tenedos, depicted in incuse relief at the center of a recessed square punch. The handle of the axe extends downward, dividing the lower portion of the incuse square into two compartments, each bearing two Greek letters: TE to the left and NE to the right, arranged vertically, forming the abbreviated ethnic TENE for Tenedos. The incuse square has sharp, well-defined borders consistent with hammered coinage technique of the late fifth to early fourth century BC.
