Obverse description Facing head of Helios, the solar deity and patron of Rhodes, rendered in high relief and turned slightly to the right in the characteristic early Rhodian manner. The effigy displays finely articulated facial features — almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose, and gently parted lips — executed in the refined archaic-to-early Classical Rhodian engraving style. Deeply incised, wind-swept locks radiate symmetrically around the face, conveying the divine luminosity of the sun god. The flan is irregular and the field plain, consistent with early hammered silver coinage struck at the newly founded Rhodian mint following the synoikism of 408 BC.
