Obverse description Bare head of Herakles in right profile, draped in the Nemean lion's skin headdress, the scalp pulled over the crown with the beast's ears and muzzle clearly rendered. The youthful, idealized facial features display strong modeling, with a prominent brow and well-defined jaw. The lion's paws are knotted at the neck, falling across the lower field. The style closely follows the Lysimachean and Macedonian iconographic tradition popularized in the wake of Alexander the Great's coinage.
