| Obverse description | Facing Boeotian shield rendered in high relief, centrally positioned within the field. The distinctive oval form of the shield is delineated by a bold raised rim, with the characteristic cutouts on either side rendered in careful detail, faithfully reproducing the shape of the regional infantry shield. The convex surface of the shield dominates the flan, filling it almost entirely, and is executed in a robust, archaic style typical of Boeotian federal coinage of the mid-fifth century BC. |
