Obverse description Facing head of the bearded river-god Acheloos rendered in archaic Greek style, depicted frontally with large staring eyes, a broad nose, and an elaborately rendered beard composed of flowing, sinuous locks. The hair is shown in dense, stylized curls framing the face, with a wreath of vegetation above. Two small serpentine or aquatic creatures appear at the sides of the head, consistent with the iconography of Acheloos as a water deity. The relief is bold and deeply struck on the irregular flan.
