Obverse description Facing gorgoneion rendered in archaic style, with wide staring eyes, prominent brow, and snub nose occupying the lower field. Above the gorgoneion, a stylized silphium fruit depicted point upward, the characteristic civic emblem of Kyrene, its distinctive heart-shaped seed pod clearly articulated. The design is confined within the round flan with no legend or border, the apotropaic imagery executed in bold high relief typical of early Kyrenaic coinage.

Reverse description Incuse square enclosing an octopus depicted with its mantle rendered as a rounded body at centre, four tentacles extending in curvilinear fashion to the left and right sides of the field. A small pellet is visible in the left field, serving as a control mark. The entire design is set within a roughly quadripartite incuse punch characteristic of archaic Greek hammered coinage of this period, with the tentacles rendered in a schematic yet lively archaic style.
