Aigai was one of the twelve cities of the Achaian League in the northern Peloponnese, though it ranked among the least consequential of them — Strabo later noted it had fallen into such obscurity that virtually nothing of note remained. Coinage from Aigai in this period is accordingly rare, produced in small quantities that reflect a modest local economy rather than any regional commercial ambition.
The Weber specimen, catalogued as #3944 in the 1922 sale of the Henry Weber collection, remains a key reference point given how few signed or attributed pieces from this mint survive.
