| Obverse description | Forepart of a lion facing right in high relief, the head dramatically turned back to the left in a characteristic retrospective pose. The mane is rendered with fine engraved striations, conveying a sense of wild naturalism consistent with the Thracian Chersonese civic coinage tradition. The muscular forequarters and raised paw are boldly modeled against the smooth field, with a beaded border visible along the lower rim. The composition is dynamic and vigorous, typical of the accomplished die-cutting associated with this prolific series. |
