Kleitor was among the Arkadian poleis that briefly participated in the Arkadian Confederacy coinage experiment of the early fifth century BC, a short-lived attempt at regional monetary unity that collapsed under the pressures of shifting Peloponnesian alliances. The hemidrachm denomination served local commercial needs at a fraction of the weight standard tied to the Aiginetan system then dominant across much of the Peloponnese.
Issues attributable to Kleitor are rare in any denomination. The polis itself remained a secondary player in Arkadian politics throughout the classical period, overshadowed by Mantineia and Tegea.
