Obverse description A tetrastyle temple with a triangular pediment and stepped base occupies the entire field, its four fluted columns framing the bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in the Roman portrait tradition. The emperor's effigy is depicted with youthful, idealised features consistent with Augustan imperial iconography. The Greek legend ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΣ ΚΤΙΣΤΗΣ, meaning 'Augustus the Founder,' is inscribed in the field to the left and right of the temple facade. The architectural framing of the imperial portrait within a temple front emphasises the divine and civic honours accorded to Augustus by the city of Teos. The overall composition reflects the Hellenistic tradition of integrating imperial cult imagery into civic bronze coinage.
