| Obverse description | Forepart of a lion facing left, rendered in archaic Lydian style, with powerful open jaws exposing the teeth, a prominent round eye in high relief, and a richly striated mane depicted by deeply incised parallel lines extending across the field. The bold, naturalistic modelling of the leonine head is characteristic of the earliest Lydian electrum coinage produced at the royal mint of Sardes. |
