| Reverse description | Deep quadripartite incuse square struck into the reverse, divided into four roughly equal rectangular compartments by raised ridges meeting at the centre. The incuse is irregular in execution, reflecting early hammered technique, with the four sections showing varying surface texture. This type of mill-sail or quadripartite punch is characteristic of archaic Ionian electrum coinage of the late 7th to early 6th century BC. No subsidiary types or legends are present within the incuse. The broad, flat field surrounding the incuse square is irregular and undecorated. |
