Obverse description Bearded male head of Silenos in right profile, rendered in high relief with characteristic satyric features including a broad, fleshy nose, deeply furrowed brow, and flowing beard with carefully engraved striations. The hair is depicted swept back from the forehead in loose, naturalistic waves. The portrait fills the flan with vigorous archaic artistry, exhibiting the bold sculptural quality typical of Mytilenean electrum coinage of the fifth century BC.
