| Obverse description | Forepart of a stag advancing to the right, head lowered and turned back toward the viewer, rendered in archaic relief with characteristic Ionian artistic style. The animal's musculature and antlers are summarily but expressively delineated, with a prominent globule at the shoulder joint. The field is smooth and unadorned, with no legend or inscription, consistent with the earliest electrum coinage of Ionia. The flan is irregular in outline, typical of early hammered electrum issues from the late 7th century BC. |
