Reverse description A quadripartite incuse square of irregular form, produced by the punch of the hammer die and divided into four roughly triangular compartments by raised ridges meeting near the center. The surface within each compartment is rough and uneven, reflecting the primitive striking technique employed in early Archaic electrum coinage. No inscription, device, or additional symbol is present. This type of reverse is characteristic of the earliest Ionian electrum issues, serving primarily as a securing strike to ensure proper metal flow during the minting process.
