| Reverse description | Quadripartite incuse square deeply impressed into the reverse, divided into four roughly triangular recessed compartments by raised ridges meeting at the centre. The incuse punch is irregular in outline, consistent with the archaic hammered technique employed at Phokaia during the sixth century BC. The field surrounding the incuse is plain and unadorned, preserving the rough flan surface characteristic of early electrum coinage. |
