Reverse description A quadripartite incuse square dominating the reverse field, divided into four equal recessed compartments by two perpendicular raised ridges meeting at the center, forming a windmill or pinwheel pattern characteristic of early Greek electrum coinage. The incuse design, standard for archaic coinage of Asia Minor, was produced by a square punch driven into the blank during striking. The compartments show a slightly granular texture from the hammering process, and the overall square is set within the coin's irregular flan.
