Obverse description Forepart of a tunny fish-finned lion or forepart of a lion to left, rendered in bold archaic relief with carefully detailed mane indicated by incised lines; a tunny fish appears beneath, serving as the civic badge of Kyzikos. The design fills the irregular flan in the characteristic Kyzikene style, with the figure executed in high relief against a plain field. The artistic treatment reflects the refined archaic craftsmanship associated with Kyzikene electrum coinage of the early fifth century BC.
