| Obverse description | Bearded male head facing right, rendered in high relief with fine archaic artistry characteristic of Lesbian coinage. The subject displays a full, carefully striated beard and elaborately worked flowing hair swept back from the forehead, with individual locks rendered in precise incised lines. A small bird, identified as a cock, appears perched at the upper right of the head. The facial features are boldly modelled, with a prominent brow, almond-shaped eye, and strong jaw, conveying the vigorous early Classical style. The type is generally identified as a river god or satyr, with no encircling legend. |
