Reverse description A floriated cross pattée whose arms terminate in trefoil finials, with a five-petaled rose at the center. The cross is set within an angled quatrefoil, each spandrel of which contains a fleur-de-lis, the entire design enclosed within a second angled quatrefoil. The intermediate field between the two quatrefoils is decorated with six small fleurs-de-lis, triangular groups of three pellets, and small crosslets. The arrangement exemplifies the elaborate heraldic ornamentation characteristic of French royal gold coinage of the early fifteenth century.
