Obverse description Full-length figure of Saint John the Baptist standing facing within a beaded inner circle, clad in a long robe with camel-hair mantle, nimbus about his head, holding an orb or book in his left hand while his right arm is raised in a gesture of blessing. The saint is rendered in the gothic style typical of late-medieval Low Countries coinage. The surrounding field carries the ducal legend in uncial Latin characters, separated by quatrefoil stops.
