Obverse description Half-length frontal effigy of Saint Philip, nimbate, robed, holding a tall cross in his right hand and a book in his left. Beneath the figure, a crowned shield bearing the quartered arms of Austria-Burgundy partially intersects the surrounding Latin legend. The composition is characteristic of late-medieval Netherlandish hammered coinage, with the saintly patron rendered in a hieratic, devotional style within a beaded or linear border.
