| Obverse description | Full-length facing figure of a crowned saint standing on a shield bearing the arms of Guelders, robed and nimbed, raising the right hand in benediction and holding a crozier or sceptre in the left. The figure is set within a beaded inner circle, with a continuous Latin legend surrounding the periphery reading KAROL D X GELR IVL, identifying Charles, Duke of Guelders and Jülich. The overall style is characteristic of late medieval Rhenish gold florin typology, with bold, deeply struck relief typical of hammered coinage of the period. |
