Obverse description Standing full-length nimbed figure of Saint John the Baptist facing front, robed, cradling the Lamb of God in the crook of his left arm. The arms of the city of Ghent appear in the lower field beneath the figure. The composition is rendered in the elegant Gothic figural style characteristic of late 15th-century Burgundian Low Countries coinage. A beaded or dotted inner circle frames the central design, with the legend disposed around the periphery.
