Obverse description Equestrian portrait of Augustus III (Friedrich August II, Elector of Saxony) facing right, depicted as a crowned and armoured ruler astride a rearing horse, holding a lance or baton in his right hand. The figure is rendered in high relief in the Baroque manner, set upon a ground line. A circular Latin legend surrounds the entire design within a finely reeded border: D:G:FRID:AUG:R:P:D:S:AM:&EL:INPROV:IUR:SAX:PROVISOR & VICARIUS, referencing his role as Imperial Vicar and Administrator of Saxony.
