Obverse description Equestrian portrait of Augustus III (Friedrich August II, Elector of Saxony) in armour, mounted on a rearing horse to the right, holding an upright sword in his right hand. The scene is set on a ground line with foliate detail. A circular legend surrounds the field, reading: FRID·AUG·R·POLOUS·ARCHM·&·LECTOR·D·G, identifying the ruler as King of Poland and Elector of Saxony by the grace of God. The whole is enclosed within a beaded border.
