| Reverse description | A plain cross pattée, with splayed terminals, occupies the center of a reeded inner circle, the arms extending nearly to its border. The surrounding legend MEDIOLANVM, identifying the mint city of Milan, runs between the reeded inner circle and the outer rim of the irregularly shaped flan. The bold, simply rendered cross is characteristic of northern Italian communal silver coinage of the mid-thirteenth century. |
