Reverse description Detailed architectural view of the city of Mantua, dominated by a central Gothic tabernacle or reliquary structure housing the relic of the Precious Blood, flanked symmetrically by crenellated towers and arcaded buildings rendered in perspective. The composition rests upon a base of stylized water, evoking the lakes and rivers surrounding Mantua. The design is executed in the Gothic pictorial tradition common to north Italian communal coinage of the early fifteenth century. A circular legend in Gothic lettering surrounds the city view, enclosed between an inner beaded circle and the outer toothed border.
