Obverse description Full-length frontal effigy of a bishop, identified by inscription as Nerieus, standing facing in pontifical vestments and wearing a mitre. The figure raises the right hand in benediction and holds a pastoral staff in the left hand, with the figure breaking into the surrounding circular legend at the top and bottom. The legend is enclosed within a beaded border, rendered in the angular Latin lettering characteristic of early fourteenth-century Italian hammered coinage.
