Obverse description Central field features a bold Greek cross with splayed arms, each quadrant containing a capital letter, all enclosed within a plain inner circle. The cross design is rendered in relief in a style typical of Genoese colonial coinage of the early fifteenth century. A beaded or dotted border frames the inner circle, surrounded by the peripheral legend. The entire composition is set on an irregularly shaped flan characteristic of hammered coinage of this period.
