Obverse description Central field dominated by a bold Latin cross with equal arms, extending nearly to the inner beaded circle. The inner legend PHILIPPVS. REX is divided by the arms of the cross. An outer legend reads + BNDICTV: SIT: NOME: DNI: HRI: DEI: IHV: XPC (Blessed be the name of our Lord Jesus Christ), separated from the inner legend by a second beaded circle. The coin exhibits typical hammered fabric with irregular flan edges and uneven strike characteristic of mid-14th century French royal coinage.
