| Obverse description | Central field displays the helmeted arms of Lorraine — a crowned great helm surmounting a shield charged with the bend of Lorraine — rendered in the Gothic heraldic style typical of late 14th-century Lotharingian coinage. The helm is shown in profile with decorative mantling or crest detail visible above. The entire heraldic composition is set within a plain inner circle. A circular Latin legend reading KAROLVS DVX LOThOR surrounds the design, identifying Charles II as Duke of Lorraine. The coin is struck by the hammered method on an irregular flan, resulting in slightly uneven margins. |
