Obverse description Central field features a stylized Gothic monogram or heraldic device — likely the letter 'H' for Hainaut — flanked by two rampant lions in high relief, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The intermediate zone is decorated with an elaborate Gothic architectural frame composed of interlocking trefoil lobes and curvilinear foliage ornaments, typical of the Tournois gros tradition of the early fourteenth century. Six-pointed mullets accent the central device. The outer border carries the abbreviated legend of the issuing county in Gothic lettering. The overall design reflects the refined die-cutting style of the Flemish-Hainaut monetary workshops.
