| Reverse description | A bold long cross pattée extends to the inner beaded circle, dividing the field into four equal quarters. The arms of the cross are broad and slightly flared at the terminals, characteristic of the pattée form. The circular Latin legend MONETA METENS`⸰ is distributed in the four quarters between the arms of the cross and the outer beaded border, declaring the monetary authority of Metz. The overall design is plain and functional, consistent with hammered silver coinage of the mid-14th century. |
