Obverse description Crowned half-length facing effigy of Edward III, robed and bearded, occupying the central field. The king is depicted in a frontal, hieratic posture wearing a fleur-de-lis crown, with long flowing hair and beard rendered in fine Gothic detail. The figure holds a sceptre in his right hand and appears draped in regal garments. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the Latin legend in uncial characters running around the outer margin.

Reverse description A long cross pattée divides the reverse field into four quadrants, each containing three pellets arranged in a triangular formation, a design characteristic of the sterling coinage of Guyenne. An inner beaded circle intersects the arms of the cross, with a secondary inner legend between the beaded circles containing further devotional text. The outer legend, in Gothic uncial characters, carries the Gloria in Excelsis Deo inscription running continuously around the coin's circumference.
