Obverse description Central device features an uncrowned, straight-topped shield bearing the twofold Hungarian coat of arms — the Árpád dynastic stripes on the dexter half and the apostolic double cross rising from a triple mount on the sinister half — enclosed within an ornate cartouche. The mintmark appears divided by the sides of the shield. The encircling legend reads MATTHIAS · D : G · RO · I · S · AV · GE · HVN · B · R N B, identifying Matthias as Holy Roman Emperor and King of Hungary, Bohemia, and associated realms.
