Obverse description Central field features the crowned Hungarian arms — a quartered shield displaying the characteristic Árpád stripes on the dexter side and the apostolic double cross on the sinister side — surmounted by a Hungarian royal crown. The mint marks K and B (for Kremnica) flank the shield at the sides. A beaded inner circle separates the central device from the surrounding circular legend in Latin, reading MATTHIAS · II · D · G · REX · HVNGARIÆ, identifying the issuer as Matthias II, by the grace of God King of Hungary. The lettering is rendered in characteristic early seventeenth-century hammered style.
