Obverse description A plain Latin cross occupies the center of the coin within a beaded inner circle, the arms of the cross reaching nearly to the border. The surrounding field bears a continuous circumscribed legend in uncial characters running between the inner beaded circle and the outer toothed border. The overall design is characteristic of the Anglo-Gascon feudal coinage tradition, with the cross motif serving as the primary device in the manner of contemporary gros tournois-derived issues.

Reverse description A crowned leopard passant to the left is depicted in high relief at the center of the coin, its tail raised and body rendered in a stylized heraldic manner typical of Anglo-Gascon feudal issues. The leopard is set within a beaded inner circle, above which the crown is prominently displayed. A legend in uncial script runs continuously between the inner beaded circle and the outer toothed border, identifying the issuer as Duke of Lancaster. The reverse design reflects the Plantagenet heraldic tradition, the leopard serving as the dynastic emblem of the English royal house.
