Reverse description The reverse displays the stylized representation of the chatel tournois (castle of Tours) at center, rendered as a fortified tower with three turrets and three circular apertures on the gate, all within a beaded inner circle. Surrounding this central device is a broad ornamental border of Gothic fleur-de-lis and curling trefoil foliage interspersed with five-pointed stars, enclosed between two beaded circles. The outer legend reads TVRONVS CIVIS (Citizen of Tours), referencing the city of Tours where this coin type originated. The overall design closely follows the long-established gros tournois tradition introduced under Saint Louis.
