Reverse description A bold cross pattée divides the field into four quadrants, surmounted by a royal crown at its apex, the whole enclosed within a beaded circle. The first and fourth cantons are each charged with a fleur-de-lis, the heraldic emblem of the French royal house, while the second and third cantons each bear a dolphin, the charge of the Dauphiné. The composition reflects the dual sovereignty of Charles V as King of France and Dauphin of Viennois. The surrounding uncial Latin legend is separated from the inner field by a beaded border.
