Reverse description Central field displays the word FRANC in large Gothic letters across the middle of the die, surmounted by a fleur-de-lis royal crown. Above and below the inscription, decorative friezes of fleurs-de-lis are arranged in horizontal bands. Four quadrilobe ornaments, each containing a fleur-de-lis, occupy the cardinal positions around the central panel, all enclosed within a beaded border. The overall design is characteristic of the monetary reforms of Jean II le Bon, asserting the Frankish royal title.
