Reverse description A long cross pattée extending to the inner circle divides the reverse field into four quarters, each containing alternating heraldic lions and spread eagles in opposing angles, emblems of the County of Hainaut and the Holy Roman Empire respectively. The design is executed in the bold, angular style typical of late medieval Flemish and Hainaut gros coinage. A circular Latin legend in two concentric registers is divided by the arms of the cross. The overall composition follows the standard Valenciennes mint type of the period.
