| Reverse description | Central design features a short cross pattée dividing the field into four quarters, with a lion and an eagle depicted in diagonally opposite angles, the remaining two quarters left plain. The device is surrounded by a double concentric legend: an interior inscription naming the Valenciennes mint, and an exterior devotional inscription rendered in abbreviated Latin. The arrangement of heraldic charges in the cross quarters is characteristic of Hainautian gros coinage of this period. The double-ring legend format and cross pattée type follow established conventions of mid-14th-century Low Countries silver coinage. |
