The grivennik denomination — worth ten kopeks — was issued under Elizabeth Petrovna throughout the middle years of her reign as a workhorse of everyday commerce. Elizabeth's monetary administration inherited a debased silver coinage from the Anna and regency years, and the .750 fineness of this series was itself a compromise, set deliberately below Western European sterling standards to retain bullion within the empire's borders.
Uzdenikov 840 distinguishes this emission by its specific portrait and reverse die characteristics. Elizabeth died in December 1761, and the grivennik type died with her reign.
