Reverse description Full-length frontal effigy of St John the Baptist, the patron saint of Florence whose iconography was adopted on imitative goldgulden, standing erect in long robes with a nimbus behind his head and his right hand raised in benediction. The figure is rendered in a hieratic, linear style typical of mid-14th century Silesian hammered coinage, with lateral floral or thorn-like ornaments flanking the saint. A circular legend in Gothic uncial script surrounds the figure, reading S IOHANNES B, identifying the saint.
