| Obverse description | Cruciform design with a cross pattée dividing the field into four quarters, the Basel civic shield superimposed at center bearing the characteristic black diagonal staff (Baselstab) on a white field. The date 1521 is displayed in two digits on either side of the upper arm of the cross. A beaded inner circle frames the design, with the abbreviated Latin monetary legend disposed in the four quarters of the cross. |
