Additional information

Pyrrhos struck this fractional gold coinage during his brief return to Epiros after the Italian campaigns collapsed — a period when he was simultaneously rebuilding political authority at home and preparing the invasion of Macedonia that would temporarily dislodge Antigonus Gonatas in 274 BC. Fractional gold at this denomination was not routine Epirote practice, and the issue likely reflects immediate military treasury needs rather than a sustained monetary program.

The SNG ANS and Lloyd concordance places this among a very small documented group.
