| Obverse description | Three-quarter length facing effigy of Emperor Charles V, crowned with an imperial crown, attired in elaborate imperial regalia. The emperor holds an upright sword in his raised right hand and an orb in his left hand, symbolising temporal and spiritual authority. The figure is rendered in a bold, high-relief hammered style characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century Netherlandish coinage. A circumferential Latin legend runs along the outer border of the field, separated by a beaded inner circle. |
