Obverse description Youthful laureate bust of Louis XIV facing right, with long flowing hair falling over the neck and shoulder, rendered in high relief in the style of Jean Warin. The effigy displays the king's adolescent features with classical idealization, the laurel wreath tied with a ribbon visible at the crown of the head. The peripheral legend encircles the bust, with the mint date 1661 appearing in the lower exergual area beneath the truncation.

A small central roundel appears at the intersection of the cross. The mint mark A for Paris is visible within the design. The entire composition is encircled by the four-part motto legend separated by pellets, conveying the Christological royal device.
